Artist-in-Residence

Professional watercolor artist, Hugh Skibbens, shows students at Owen Elementary School how to create their own paintings.

The Artist-in-Residence program brings artists in the areas of art, literature, and music into District 204 classrooms to work with students in the artists’ area of expertise. Some of the visiting artists are sponsored in cooperation with the Illinois Arts Council.

To date, the Foundation has funded 95 artist-in-residence grants totaling close to $136,000. The grants have covered everything from students learning how to make a didjeridoo to designing computer graphic interpretations of student poetry.
